Back to The Wizbits Cast and Crew

Frank Welker

A massively talented voice actor, Frank worked on countless animation projects throughout the 1970s, 80s, 90s and beyond. His career began in the early 1960s with an uncredited additional voice on "The Jetsons" (Hanna-Barbera), but his career really took off when he landed the vocal role of Fred "Freddy" Jones in Scooby-Doo (Hanna-Barbera). He then became a regular on "The Don Knotts Show" in the early 1970s, before returning to voice acting to work on shows such as "Super Friends", "Hong Kong Phooey", "Jabberjaw" and "The New Shmoo" to name a small fraction of animation from the 1970s that Frank was involved in.

Allegedly James Langomedes personally tried time after time to bring Frank's huge talent into The Wizbits, until finally a box of Scooby Snacks lured him into the booth, where it is said that he laid down his entire Wizbits dialogue in one session and it was subsequently edited as needed during production of the episodes.

In one famous outtake, Frank can be heard saying, "Man, now I see why Casey would never leave these things alone!" This is presumably a reference to Casey Kasem, the voice actor who played Norville "Shaggy" Rogers in the Scooby-Doo cartoon.
