Dyre Wolfbats

Bogyn's Nastiness Rating: 41 (Horrifically Nasty)

Creature Families: Bestial, Avian

Many have spoken of Arkus' hoard of beasts. They speak of their ravenous hunger. They speak of their bloodcurdling howl. They speak with some urgency of the rows of razor sharp fangs.

Canonicaly, there is little actual description of this most feared animal. We know that it walks on four legs. We are aware of the fact that it is covered in a brackish fur from which seeps the most insipid of odors. We don't really know what it looks like, but rest assured, it is horrible.

These fowl beast, which we are told were created in a roundabout way by Vhadxi himself, are incredibly loyal to their masters and deadly to their enemies.

There is much fan speculation to the exact nature of the abilities of the Wolfbats. It can be pretty soundly assumed that they can charge and pounce, and no doubt tear to shreds, any prey they come across. But what has started many a minor flame war is the issue of flight. Most consensuses conceede to the fact that at least limited flight capabilities were possessed by these brutal beasts, as it would explain the name and also give a tactical upperhand.

Appearances in Popular Culture

Dyre Wolfbats have recently been spotted in an episode of the Nickelodeon animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender," in episode 2x02: "The Cave of Two Lovers." Here, they are referred to only as wolfbats, but one scene shown in the episode mirrors identically a scene from The Dawn of Unlight's Setting, Part 1: The Rise of Dusk, so there's little doubt that at least one of the writers must be a fan of ElemenstorLance
