Rubian shards are the less powerful step-cousins of the truly powerful perfect rubian gems utilized by High Elemenstors in their various acts of Elemenstation.

Due to their smaller size, power, and let's face it: awesomeness, rubian shards are often found in the posession of Low Elemenstors and members of the Mundanae nobility. A true High Elemenstor has no use for such paltry amounts of power and Elemenstation, and would scoff at your attempts to sound smart if, at a dinner party, you were to bring up the topic of rubian shards.

At most, a shard can grant some trait to an inanimate object, such as an elemental trait (imbuing a gauntlet with the nature of Air for example, to make it cause slight breezes to blow up skirts) or a personality trait (such as adding masochistic intent to a glass, causing it to be precariously placed on a table, knocked to the floor, and smashed into smithereens).

Several such artifacts, examples of Embedded Rubian were noteworthy enough to take their dubious places in history.
