Jewellery

Several sources make rather grand claims for jewelry in Battal.

Take care while handling jewellery; it will always have a magical purpose. No one would want to carry something around just because it is pretty now, would they?

Examples include;

* Pendants. They are always Amulets

* Broochs. They are always Talismans

* Necklaces. They are often so full of magic they glow in the dark.

also...

"Regardless of where you get your jewellery, it will be magical; the more disreputable the retailer, the more magic you can expect. Beware, however; the vast majority of jewellery is unresoundingly bad news. Rings will likely turn you into a stuttering soulless zombie; anything too good to be true is. If that magic doo-daa gives you any wish, you can be damn well sure it'll age you 50 years into the bargain.

"Be particularly careful of jewellery pressed upon you by a dying stranger; if you are very lucky, you will only have to go on an Epic Quest to be rid of it."

-- One of Glowert the Paranoid's longer rants from Book 8

None the less, the text is filled with evidence of perfectly ordinary jewelry being bought/sold/worn throughout the land. Or perhaps, as one theory suggest, the more mundane jewelry merely has yet to be activated.
