Whispurr Liar

The Whispurr Liar is the gatekeeper of the Unothath Desert. It is of anthropomorphic nature, created almost entirely out of sand, and exists merely to hopefully lead travellers away from Unothath Desert.

"So why do you guys have a Reyarteb Library and a Reyarteb Riverwalk? " asked S'yrf'yl the Immortal, sipping his ale, "That's kinda wierd considering that the rest of the world is basically terrified of him."

"Ah," said the innkeeper, "You see, though Char Reyarteb may be a horrifying fiend, he still seems to strongly believe in community service, and constantly gives back to his hometown."

Quailheart suddenly spit out his wine.

"Wow... Um, I guess that was surprising, eh?"

"Not at all," said Quailheart, "but this wine tastes like it was aged in the bowels of a Blarf'vgelch!"

"Whew. For a second there, I was afraid you were going to tell all of Battal about our most secretive secret!"

"Actually," said S'yrf'yl, "After we kick back at the Reyarteb Oasis Resort for a little while, we're headed back to Middleclang to report our findings to the Lawmakers."

"The Lawmakers? Oh no... what are we going to do?"

"You could build a giant wall arond your city," suggested S'yrf'yl.

"Preposterous," snorted Quailheart, "make a wall out of sand?".

"Maybe they could make some kind of... Sand... Monster... or something."

"Or," said the Innkeeper, "You could just not tell anyone about this."

The adventurers looked at each other seriously for a few seconds before bursting out in laughter.

-- from Immortal Wanderings

The Whispurr Liar first appeared in the year 19,014, when the citizens of Battal first learned of the fact that Unothath was, in actuality, the birthplace of the infamous immortal, Char Reyarteb. Unothathians, in a desperate attempt to stop crazed mobs from burning down their humble oasis-tradepost, pooled together energy from what Elemenstors were in town at that moment, and created an immense sand monster. Its sole purpose was to lead travellers, and thus mobs, away from Unothath.

For years, the Whispurr Liar did exactly what it was supposed to. However, in the year 19,068, an unnamed robber somehow circumvented this trouble, and with a band of thieves, ransacked and burned down Unothath. This was, at last, the end of the longest-standing tradepost in all of Battal.

However, even as the world went on and was reformed countless times, it should be noted that the Whispurr Liar still stood in its place for eternity, guarding a place that was no longer there -- a testament to its creators' astounding abilities.

It should be noted that since the creation of the original Whispurr Liar, others have mimicked its design; six Whispurr Liars were erected at six parts of Battal to guard the six divisions of the Mute Blade of Non-Life.
