Wangdok

Also See: Wang Kingdom

An old warrior of the Wang Kingdom, who fought using the deadly art of Wang-Fu and a legendary Enchanted Spoon. It is believed that his unique choice in weapons influenced his protege, the Cardboard Tube Samurai, to wield a Cardboard Tube.

Wangdok began his career as a wandering hero in 3,405, during the rule of Teruki the Coward (real power actually lay with The Shadow Lord). It was the darkest time of the Wang Kingdom; the line of High August Jade Lotus Emperors, sporadic even during the high era, had come to an end. Lawlessness and treachery were the rule of the land.

While many wandering heroes of the age were killed (and often brutally) by bandits, Wangdok had a skill and eccentricy unparalleled by his peers. It was thanks to this strange mix of ability and insanity that Wangdok was able to survive, thrive, and go on to right wrongs and restore hope to the people of the Wang Kingdom.

Wangdok's array of battle-spoons, which he kept in his own hat, were considered impractical weapons by many. These people were wrong; hundreds of bandits fell to his deadly food-scoops. Often, Wangdok would use the spoons to retrieve his foes eyes, holding them up to his own and claiming he could now "peer into history itself". Many suspect this is how he was able to narrate the fourth volume of Oriental Tales of the Wang Kingdom without being present for many of the events himself. In at least one instance, he used the eyes to make stew.

Skilled though he may be, Wangdok never posed a real threat to the Shadow Lord. He ended his career in sometime in the 3,440's after suffering substantial wounds in combat. While he would never fight again, he did go on to train the Cardboard Tube Samurai, regarded by many as the greatest hero of the era.

Rumors suggest that Wangok's battle-spoons may have been artifacts recovered from the sea from the long lost kingdom of Atlantistantinople.

Fan Art

A member of the ELotH:TES fandom has commissioned me to render a tableau ("bordering on Epic," he said) for Elemenstorm 2006. It portrays Wangdok dispatching two bandits in the misty environs around Mt. Wang's looming form.
It's not ready yet, but I thought our wiki's page of this truly Epic Hero needed some fan art. --R.S.
