Back to Creatures of the Wang Kingdom

Wangalo

On the fertile grasslands of the High August Jade Lotus Imperial Plains, a great variety of wildlife can be found roaming about and doing many noble yet endearing animal things. By far the most proud and famous of these creatures are the Wangalo, a species of Bison strongly identified with the people and customs of the Wang Kingdom.

The Wangalo are known as being quite smug... and you would be too, if you were under the constant protection of the fearsome Northern Flats Minotaur. Among the various superstitions of this Great Herd of Minotaur is that the Wangalo are the relics of the elder days, a race of "proto-minotaur" descended from their goddess Gaia The Earth. The Minotaur claim that their Wangalo cousins are quite intelligent, and speak an archaic form of the Minotaur Tongue. As few outside the race speak the tongue, and those that do are quite hesitant to question a 1500-lb bovine wielding a hammer the size of the tree... the Wangalo aptitude for language is generally accepted. Woe betide the sucker who suggests that the Wangalo is the bastard child of a Smug Ape and a mundane buffalo.

Though notoriously tasty, it is considered a great test of one's courage to hunt for the Wangalo, as one risks a messy death beneath heavy hammers to escape with the prize of tasty flesh. The rarity of this meat (particularly the face) led to its sale at exhorbitant prices, which encouraged a cottage industry of Wangalo Poachers whose arts of stealth and feats of suicidal bravery garnered much respect from the complicated social hierarchy of the Wangs.
