Vel Jinglefist

Vel Jinglefist, a one-time friend of The Wizbits, would become one of the most famous of the Bladebrothers.

Warning! Spoilers ahead!

Vel was a passable fighter, and was the youngest person to ever be admitted to the Bladebrothers, but his real claim to fame was his ability at the dangerous but amusing game of Agash. Vel was widely acknowledged as a master of the game, and his only loss was to Zula in The Wizbits episode A Warm Welcome. Zula's victory baffled him, and he became a quick friend of The Wizbits, with the implication being that he had developed a serious crush on Zula.

Unfortunately, after parting with The Wizbits, Vel was captured and enchanted by Char Reyarteb into believing that Lander had his sights on Zula, and that Penny and Wendel felt he wasn't good enough to be their friend. Depressed, Vel became an enemy of The Wizbits.

Vel's final battle with The Wizbits was in the episode The Ballad of the Elemenstors (a.k.a. Tocatta and Fugue in Wiz Minor). In this battle, Zula managed to break through to him through his ensorclement, and Vel realizes his mistake in time to rescue Lander before he goes over the Foreverian Falls. Vel, however, goes over the falls himself.

Vel is presumed dead, though many fans believe that he might still be alive, as no corpse has appeared.

Vel the Fighter

When Vel fought alongside The Wizbits, he proved himself to be a decent fighter, using some fairly advanced sword techniques. When he came back from his enchantment under Char Reyarteb, he actually demonstrated some techniques that appeared to be gears. It was unclear whether he was striking the gears himself, or if it was part of Char Reyarteb's enchantment of him.

Vel fights with a sword known as the Bladeslinger's Song, which has belonged to the Jinglefist family for generations. It is therefore naturally assumed to be terribly powerful, and in fact, the Bladeslinger's Song (Card) became very popular in the CCG because of the powerful Bladeslinger's Song-Blast of Airth-Cap of Refreshment combo.

Blade Cadet Vel

The episode Tocatta and Fugue in Wiz Minor had five minutes of additional footage which was shown during a special Sweeps promotion for the show. This footage was lost to future showings of the episode, but it is assumed that this footage will appear on the Season 1 DVD. The funeral sequence included a sequence in which Vel was awarded the highest honor of the Bladebrothers, the Blade designation.

This sequence adds credence to the belief that Vel is dead, as the Blade honorific is only awarded posthumously.

Discussion

Johan Can't the Blade designation also be given out as a way to keep up appearances of him being dead?
Shadowtext For that matter, this is all based on the Bladebrothers' knowledge. I just take the designation as an indication that the Bladebrothers think Vel died, not that he actually did. Still, I tried to remain objective in the entry, and not color it with my own wishful thinking.
