Unicorn

Unicorns of Battal differ slightly from traditional depictions. Firstly, they have two horns upon their head lined up vertically with eachother. One is very small, while the other is much more pronounced and long. Secondly, unicorns lack hair except on their mane and tail, the rest of their bodies are covered in shimmering ivory scales. The unicorn's legs and neck are also very long, giving it a closer appearence to a giraffe than a horse.

The larger horn of the unicorn has immense healing and regenerative powers, while the smaller one allows the unicorn to posess pyrokinetic abilities.

Unicorns were once thought to be gentile and fragile creatures because of their beauty. This is patently untrue. Unicorns are actually carnivorous, with gigantic fangs and powerful and swift legs allowing it to chase down most prey. In fact, it will often feed on Mariacheetahs.

Unicorns especially hate humans, and will do anything in their power to impale them on their horns. Since the horns heal whatever they touch, being impaled by a unicorn can cause hours and hours of bleeding and pain without being able to die, and the unicorn will happily keep its helpless prey skewered for days on end feeling only pure hatred.

Early Battal lore once suggested that unicorns could only be tamed by virgins. This was proved false when a single unicorn ate an entire nunnery full of maidens in one night.

Eventually, R'kakr'kaka'kazak Bogyn discovered that it was actually a mistranslation, as the ancient documents on unicorn taming stated that "only a person who has never known love may tame the horn-ed beasties". What was taken to be a euphamism was actually literal - unicorns can only be safely approached by someone who has never experienced the emotion of love in any form.

The ability to ride a unicorn then, is often a sign of extreme insanity and sociopathy. Most notably, Queen-Princess Xanzandrinzel rides a jet-black unicorn named Harpleatese.
