The World Beginning (始める世界)

Super ElamenSTAR FINAL Episode 525

Aired 30th December, 2000

Summary

After their climactic battle with Char Reyarteb in the previous episode, the Four Underdogs are baffled by what appears to be the world tearing itself apart. Freed from his prison, the Ocumen tells the Four that it was all a trick, and that Char had fooled them into destroying him in order to tear the world apart to finally free him from control of the Starborn Gem. But by destroying the Gem, the fabric of spacenes and timenes has been ruptured and that soon the world will be torn apart by the rushing tidal forces of the Elmether attempting to fill the void.

The Ocumen reveals to the Four the secrets of Brainmanglement Elemenstation, the magik force that Char had used to control his many minions - the War Men, their familiars, and even Zula until the power of her feelings for Lander helped her to break free of his control. He also describes the secrets of timesorc'ley. The Ocumen, in his great wisdom, has a plan for how to restore the world and keep it from destruction, but it will require a great sacrifice on the part of the Four Underdogs... all memory of their time together, and their sacrifices!

Notes

This episode ends with the famous scene where Lander and Zula are hanging in the inky blackness of the void, looking at each other and completely unmoving for 177 seconds of the same animation cel. Finally Lander says, "Let's do it." and the credits roll.

A few fans liked this moment because it showed that the characters were really taking this seriously and that the scene added "gravity" to the moment. Most fans consider it the most boring "moment" of the series.
