The Rapid Succession

The period of the Spica Wars from 9,473 to 9,480, and possibly a contributing factor in the wars.

The Rapid Succession began with the death of King Fonard and the ensuing fight to the death of all his children except Julipon. Julipon had had so much success with his "curling up into a ball" tactic during the fighting that he used it whenever possible. It was not successful, and he died six months after being crowned.

Forunately, Julipon was not a young man, and he was immediately succeeded by his (also somewhat aged) son, Portapon. But Portapon was inept in many remarkable ways, from his inability to understand the basic rules of Agash to his inability to raise children with any kind of conscience. His 40-year-old son Zermapon, one of the most remarkably evil men of his time, locked Portapon in a tower after one year of inept reign and took the crown for himself.

Zermapon managed to rule for an additional year-and-a-half, perpetrating remarkable butchery and breaking all sorts of natural and human law before his own courtly entourage locked him in the tower with his father. They finally found the young Zonard, who had been raised in secret far from the influences of his cowardly great grandfather, his inept grandfather, and his evil father. It has even been suggested that through timesorc'ley he was partly raised by King Ronard himself (though these rumors remain unconfirmed). The prince was crowned on his 18th birthday, when his rule officially began, but the damage done by his forebears (and a few years of almost total anarchy) proved irreversible and the Spica Wars plagued Zonard's otherwise uneventful life.

This tragedy, combined with the loss of Ronard's Very Large But Unenchanted Spikey Hammer signals the decline of the Magic Sword Kings Period, with one last hurrah in Zonard, crowned in 9,480.
