The Eyuda

An ancient and enigmatic secret soceity originating in The Magic Sword Kings Period. The Eyuda is never to be confused with Eyuda, an azure colored spice popular in the Lands of Va that is known to cause indigestion and slight oily discharge in those unaccustomed to it. The only thing known for sure about them is that they are very mysterious.

Mythology

While thier true intentions are unknown it is assumed that they accomplish their goals through means so indirect and complex that they would drive a normal man quite mad. This is not an exageration: when madness first came to Valedaleglenhill as outlined in Book 7, it was first feared that a detailed Eyuda playbook was to blame.

Thier unique methodology makes them difficult to tie in with the history of the world. Often, it is said, thier role in historical events are confined to inteference with individuals and objects two or three steps removed from the central players of history. By and large, most of their interference is completely misunderstood by historians who characterize the Eyuda as either guided by minds beyond mortal comprehension or ideas pulled from a Drawer of Chansing.

Their actions are so seemingly insubstantial that heros and villians alike often discount the influence of the Eyuda as peasant's stories or superstition. Believers are always quick to point out that such rising stars often wind up dead...

Lexicon

Members of the Eyuda never speak directly about anything. Their speech can be divided into three catagories:

Vaguarities - Statements that have meaning, but the meaning can't be attached to anything, often due to excessive use of pronouns. Soon they will know what this truly means for the land.

Tautologies - Things that are always true, regardless of circumstance. We should act when the time is right.

Gnomic statements - Comments that make no literal sense but suggest some metaphorical meaning. Sometimes fire can quench a thirst that water cannot.

Reasons for this lexicon are unknown. The two prevailing theories are that either they are from a higher plane and thus think in abstractions, or that they are literally retarded, experiencing time more slowly than others because of a Chronosorcellor's curse enchantment. This would cause them to continually de-synch from actual events in a way that causes their claims to be made in a "prophetic" mode, even when stated after the fact.

Historical interference

In The Magic Sword Kings Period they are suspected of causing the Vuksveufen Schism simply by pointing out that all people die, and that occurs at a time.

It is said that when a rogue faction of the Eyuda hid the Starborn Gem in Unothath Desert, in the certain path of Harbinger Portent, which set in motion events that directly changed the course of Battal history, the penalty for those responsible was severe indeed... Although terribly indirect and inscrutable.

In the era of The Resundering they employed the Arch Demon Randolph, however he mistook some cryptic instuctions for making gravy for orders to go to a tavern and consume massive quantities of mead. At said tavern he mets the Rusty Knight and is killed in the subsequent barfight.
