The Brothic Cycle
by Jenson Matthews
Books
The Brothic Cycle is an Epic trilogy which describes the Great War of Magiks and Things, told from the viewpoint of Brothic Gandlebar, half-breed Troll/Giant, leader, hero, ruthless monarch and conqueror: Priest-King and Wander-God. It is Matthews' only contribution to the ELoTH canon, and is marked by a complete lack of Elemenstation. This is mostly due to the book's complete focus on Giant and Troll culture and its disastrous intermingling with the kingdoms of The Shield during the period of the war. It was due to this characteristic that it is sometimes ignored by many of the ELoTH faithful, though those that can get past the lack of ambulatory furniture realize that Matthews is telling a powerful and resonant story which explains the lives and motivations of two otherwise overlooked races as seen through the lens of the fascinatingly unique Brothic. Matthews, discouraged by the lukewarm reaction to his trilogy, returned to writing non-epic historical fantasy after its completion and has yet to write anything in the ELotH world since.
