The Birth of Rubian (ルービアン、誕生)

Super ElamenSTAR FINAL Episode 521

Aired 2nd December, 2000

Summary

The episode begins with a flashback, showing the subtitle "Before the Dawn of Time...", and an image of the Starborn Gem floating in space. Inside the gem lies the Starchildren, symbolized by nothing more than large black slabs with numbers on them to distinguish one from the other. Booming disembodied voices argue over the fate of the gem. One argues that the knowledge the Starchildren seek should be shared with all, and that the gem's purpose should be to spread knowledge as it travels throughout the universe. The others disagree, and banish him from the gem. His spirit is expelled, and we see that it is none other than Aklom Reklats.

After the commercial break, a different time period is visited - we return to the 18000th century, where Harbinger Portent is visited by the spirit of Reklats, who advises him of his impending demise at the hands of his wayward pupil, Char Reyarteb. Already aware of his fate, Portent consults with Reklats and they devise a plan to defeat him, although it will take many many years for the plan to reach fruition. When the Starborn Gem and Char Reyarteb reach the point where their power is in perfect synchronisity, the Gem's power will radiate forth and activate four rubian gems, forged from the essence of the Starborn Gem itself. As these gems incubate, they will gain enough power to, when activate, grant their owners sufficient power to destroy Reyarteb. Just before his death, Portent manages to scatter the gems through Battal.

In the present, the Four Underdogs approach the fortress of Niozeyon, when their rubian gems begin to glow fiercly, in time with the pulsing of the Starborn Gem. Feeling new power surge through them, the Four Underdogs disappear!

Notes

The first half of the show is almost all exposition over slow pans of the monoliths representing the Starchildren. This was most likely a cost-cutting measure as the show was beginning to run out of budget.
