Staff of the High Augur

Possession of the Staff of the High Augur is the only requirement one need to fulfill in order to become the High Augur. Although this seems trivial, in reality it is far from; the Staff is the most-misplaced artifact in the history of Battal. It has been said that the only being who ever truly knows the Staff’s location is the High Augur, an irony most delicious, considering that should the High Augur ever die while the Staff is unaccounted for, the Staff would practically be lost to the world (thus destroying the chances of another High Augur coming to power) – this is, of course, exactly what happened during The Unsundering. The Staff was recovered from the Grotto of Woe by Theoric the Eversnide (who travelled through time from 20,018) in 16,648; it is unclear how he came to know the location of the Staff, but it is widely speculated that he traveled forward through time to converse with his future self – the High Augur of that day – about the Staff’s whereabouts. This flagrant flouting of the Chronoclave’s edicts is the reason Theoric came to be known as The Adversary in those circles.

History remains silent regarding the name of its creator, but all scholars of item lore in the know agree that no mortal hand could have crafted it. Wrought from the shattered bones of the Charnel Wyrm slain by Welregar of Ebonshire, topped with the Crystal of Sorrow-Seeing - that mighty artifact of the Age of Remembrance – the Staff grants its wielder almost unlimited forever-sight, along with a bevy of lesser, not clearly documented, powers.
