Socknight

Quite possibly the most popular winter holiday for all the various peoples of Battal. Children eagerly await this day, when Father Manifeet, a jolly and fat humanoid centipede, takes flight on a sleigh pulled by Aerobou and delivers delightful novelty socks to all the good people of Battal. Occasionally, the very good get extra gifts within the socks, such as toys, candy, or the severed foot of a previous owner.

It is also traditional for people to exchange gifts with each other, ranging from the expensive to . . . Omnibread. Nearly all of the land-dwelling peoples, races, and cultures of Battal celebrate Socknight.

Families gather around a decorated Thistled Snowhat Tree, and sing Socknight Wazzles. A great deal of gingerbread is consumed during the holiday season, often leading to small wars with the Gingerbread Men in Autumn to farm their culture for inhabitants to feast upon. This practice has waned since the Gingerbread Men signed a mutal protection treaty with the Mutant Snowmen of Doom.

Socknight's chief competitor is Octovigil. In many parts of Battal, some of the decorations once associated with Socknight have spun off into their own secular holiday, Winterstars Week.

The day before Socknight is known as Sockeve, although every 233 years, Sockeve comes 12 days before Socknight. Regardless of the day on which Sockeve occurs, Dwarven Beadbeerbeard is counted from Sockeve, not Socknight. "Thirteen days after Socknight" is the popular misunderstanding of when Beadbeerbeard occurs, and the title of a popular drinking song.
