Ratcatcher

An indispensible position in the rat-infested, disease-heavy towns and cities of Battal, Ratcatchers are both beloved by the peasants and looked down upon by the nobility. The former have obvious reasons for their adoration, being the direct beneficiaries of a Ratcatchers largess. The latter, who often have never seen a rat, much less had to worry about catching a disease from one, see Ratcathers as rather dirty.

Ratcatchers use a number of methods to catch their prey. Some set elaborate traps, often designed with the help of a Tinker. A few employ hunting cats and eagles to scour their foe. The most elite ratcatchers perform their job with nothing but their teeth; as such, there is often a dirth of elite ratcatchers.

No matter what, you should always keep a ratcatcher well-paid. Legends tell of one ratcatcher who, operating with an enchanted flute, led a village children to their deaths after he was stiffed for a job. It's the type of situation you want to avoid.

"Ratcatcher" was one of the most popular non-Elemenstor character classes in the Pen and Paper RPG, as they came with 1d15 Rats-on-a-Stick, which, thanks to an interesting error, were worth thousands of Gem Flecks per rat.
