Mortal Wombat

As any school aged child in Battal could tell you: Wombats were wiped out by Gespechio before the beginning of time (almost 40,000 years before the birth of King Ronard). Wombats were evil, vile, nasty, and generally untrustworthy. It is said that Gespechio thought them to be in particular a threat to his precious Ecreekem.

Wombats were said by the elder races (for Wombats walked the face of Battal and were wiped out before the dawn of man) to be vicious baby killers and generally quite nasty, but despite these tails, one particularly skilled Chronomenstor named Oleyoda came to hold the conviction that no creature could be wholely evil.

Oleyoda travelled back to the far flung past in order to begin a new school of Wombamancy that could be divorced from the evil inherent in that craft. It is thanks to this Elemenstor, that one solitary wombat survived extinction when Gespechio unleashed his terrible fury and wiped out every living member of that species. Oleyoda carried this wombat (a female of the species) forward through time to beyond the mass wombacide, so that he may continue his studies, and if successful, re-introduce a wombat population into the lands.

Unfortunately, this last remaining living wombat, the so-called Mortal Wombat, was discovered to be completely sterile. Perhaps this was due to the chrono-tampering that had moved the creature out of its natural timeline; perhaps it was due to the many varied wombamancy experiments performed by Oleyoda himself, or perhaps it was just plain bad luck. None the less, discovering a way to replenish the wombat population from this last remaining wombat became Oleyoda's life's work. Finally as an old man, he thought he had unravelled secret. He gave his life to begin a spell which would create a viable wombat embryo within the Mortal Wombat, but just before dying he gasped that the unborn fetus would remain in a state of suspended animation until he could return to complete the Elemenstation.

The wombat, who Oleyoda had taught to speak, as well as read and write, was distraught. Not only with the unfullfilled promise of one day having a child and reviving her kind, but also at the loss of her only friend in a world hostile to Wombats.

The creature became increasingly feral as the ages past and the Wombat discovered that she was seemingly very long lived. In fact, as part of Oleyoda's spell, the wombat would not again age until the she had given birth to her child. Retreating from populated areas the wombat dwelled for a time in the Wildlands. Staying in this region, the wombat was eventually drawn into the events at the Battle of Yore.

In a breif scene from The Million Years End, we see the Mortal Wombat vowing to remove herself from the "petty affairs of men" she seals herself in the Tower of Rue. And presumably here she stays, perhaps unlocking the secrets of that tower, until the Vampyric Wars draw her from her solitude.

In 809, strangely attracted by the powerful wombamancy of Mo-pi, the Mortal Wombat felt a strange draw that she thought may have been the long awaited return of Oleyoda. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and she flew into a rage and attacked the evil Vampyre. Using the Necrowombicon, Mo-pi sealed the wombat within an alternate plane of existence known as Drag'unuhr.

It was many thousands of years before the wombat would find a way to recorporate from the plane, and she returned more reclusive, wary and wild than ever. Weary of this endless existance without home or ally, she begins to formulate a plan. Becoming a student of wombamancy herself she begins to research the rites of Wombageddon, a ritual which she would be uniquely qualified to perform.

Then, when her plans are nearly completed, early in the second century of the 19th milleneum, the wombat once again felt a strange intuition, a familiar pull that may be Oleyoda. But this time, she would not unprepared for battle, if that was what was required. Amassing an army of undead wombats, she decends upon the Cerulean Citadel, the place to which her intuition leads her.

The events of the Womb of the Wombat episode of ElamenSTAR then unfold, which ultimately do re-unite the wombat and Oleyoda. The final scene of Womb of the Wombat shows the Grand Elemenstors presenting the Necrowombicon to Oleyoda on the steps of the Cerulean Citadel. The Mortal Wombat departs with her new companion.

As for the fate of the two, it is as of yet little explored.
