Moppet
Bogyn's Nastiness Rating: Varies (Moppets are among the few creatures in Battal whose Nastiness Rating can literally fluctuate from moment to moment, due to their highly inconsistent and unpredictable natures)
A horrifying creature, nearly beyond the edge of human comprehension. A child's toy, but of Epic size and deadliness. Moppets are the twisted result of Transchanting childrens' toys, especially stuffed animals. The Allsoul in the toy has difficulty distinguishing if it inhabits a toy, or if it inhabits what the toy is based on. This causes the result of the process to take on qualities of whatever it is based on, rather than simply coming to life as Furniliars do. Thus, a wooden toy dragon, instead of simply becoming an ambulatory piece of wood in the shape of the dragon, grows to unfathomable proportions and promptly destroys itself with its own firey breath.
Moppets are also highly insane from trying to piece together two seperate personas into one being. A toy tiger has the urge to snuggle children. A real tiger has the urge to devour their intestines. The dissasociation between the divergent personalities trying to merge ends up creating a rampaging beast that will try to give you an innocent hug, then tear your head off. Without need to eat or rest, they would make the perfect warriors if anyone could control them. The only substance known to induce some modicum of obedience were the Strawberry Deathcakes, but their recipie is elusive and lost. Without them, the Moppets will be just as likely to execute someone as they would be to read them a bedtime story.
The most common subspecies of Moppets are bears, popularly refered to as Deady Bears. The most infamous of these was the atrocious Deady Roxpin.
They first appeared in Book 7, as the minions of the NightLairds, and it is they who capture Ark Riven. Even after the NightLairds are defeated, the Moppets still stalked the darker corners of the Lands of Va.
From the well known "Action Sequence" of Book 7...
"Look!" Raven exclaimed, pointing at a velvety-soft raggamoffin forraging among the scrub brush.
"Beware," Isaac said gravely. "Avoid."
"Hug!" she said, walking forward with arms out-stretched.
The small animal with its glassy black eyes unreadable turned to the approaching child, its sewn shut mouth closed and its expression passively adorable. It shuffled amiably toward the girl as she closed the distance toward it. In another moment it would have been in her arms but a heavy wooden truncheon came down upon it. "Observe!" Ark shrieked as if yelping a war cry. Raven lept back and saw to her horror among the stuffing and yarn there was a set of razor sharp claws which would almost certainly have torn her to shreds.
