Moonlit Order

The Moonlit Order is a shadowy Elemenstor cult dedicated to undoing the chaotic powers of Dark Elemenstation, particularly the aspect of Unlight. Although they are sworn to combat Dark Elemenstation, they are not considered to be "good", per se. The Grand Elemenstor of Fire in particular has condemned them for not following the one true light that Fire brings, and instead following the lesser light of the moon.

The greatest member of the Moonlit Order was Theoric the Eversnide, whose bravery in retrieving the Staff of the High Augur from the tumultuous period of The Unsundering dealt a heavy blow to the forces of Dark Elemenstation. However, his actions also defied the edicts of the Chronoclave, the high council responsible for protecting the fabric of time. He is also responsible for setting off the chain of events in Tales of the Forever Road.

The Order is governed either by a High Augur, or barring the known location of the Staff of the High Augur, by a council of Elemenstors known as the Elder Scion Collective.

Many critics consider the reluctance of author Tycho Brahe to speak in absolutes of good an evil one of the great strong points of the Cycle. The ambiguous nature of the Moonlit Order highlights this, and some critics have gone so far to say that Char Reyarteb, the Dark Elemenstor himself, just wants to be loved. Other critics consider this view to be hippie bullshit. And after Char Reyarteb's heinous acts at the Pit of Gorges, who can blame them?
