Item Law #309

Literally Construed

Item Laws are not to be so literally construed as to defeat the purpose of the Lawmakers. The spirit as well as the letter of an Item Law must be respected, and where the whole context of the Law demonstrates a particular intent in the Item Law Makers Guild to effect a certain object, some degree of implication may be called in to aid that intent.
