ElemenstorLance: Immortal Wanderings

by Tracy White and Leslie Hackstein, 2000

STUB

Introduction

The events of Immortal Wanderings, though they are four completely separate storylines, all take place during the same time period of the mid-15,000's. Mostly, they seem to have been written to add more to a period of the timeline that was considered by Realmworlds Publishing to be "desparately lacking in exploitable lore." Therefore, much of what we know about this period of The Unsundering that lies between The Great War Of The Warlords and the forging of the 100 Swords of Sepathok comes from this book. As the title suggests, the main characters of all these stories are among the may immortal heroes and villains of ELotH.

Book One: Kerrik's Passion

Set in the youth of Char Reyarteb (stub)

Book Two: The Realm of Impossibility

Concerns restless spirits of an ancient spire. (stub)

Book Three: The Ghould Farmers

Near the beginning, after much exposition of character, Chapter 1 of the book begins with a meeting of the Lawmakers, who wish investigate the appearance of a mysterious comet (which, if magical, would present a great threat to their regulations). Chapter 2 takes place about 3,500 years later (in the year 19,014) when after much procedural difficulties, the Lawmakers have finally agreed to commission S'yrf'yl the Immortal and the elf Quailheart to investigate the Gem.

As the adventurers move on their long march across The Great Lands, they stray from their course a bit in order to ditch the pesky Ringlings who constantly trail their hero. Unfortunately, though they manage to finally evade them in the forests of the Arkenvale, they are cornered by the chatty Ghost of Peladdywynnyd. They attempt to break free, but have a very difficult time, as the speech he is making just doesn't seem to have many breaks in it to say something like: "Well, it was nice talking to you, but we really must be going now."

Fortunately for S'yrf'yl and Quailheart, a young villager (bearing the odd name of "Laethwin the Elder") from Little Vinkum interrupts their conference, desparate for a group of heroes to help his people, who are plagued by a mysterious and evil malady. He begs the pair of adventurers to assist him. The Elf and Sw'ftfl'woot, seeming to have no other way to get out of the boring lectures of a Cohoris apparition, agree to help Young Laethwin the Elder. Unfortunately, the ghost of Peladdywynnyd does not stay in the Arkenvale as expected, but followers the travelers as he has nothing better to do.

Peering over the top of the grassy knoll, Quailheart and S'yrf'yl beheld what the young lad had told them of. The denizens of the small hamlet roamed about mechanically, walking the same paths again and again, performing the same simple tasks again and again, sometimes pausing momentarily and spinning about in a circle before continuing. Quailheart furrowed his brow in disgust.

"Bhaats," the Elf growled, "I hate these foul creatures."

"Well, how can we be sure?"

Quailheart sneered and rose up, drawing his sword and walking straight toward the addled villagers.

"What the vuks is he doing?" marveled Peladdywynnyd, "Oh my... this is making me dizzy..."

"Dizzy?" said S'yrf'yl, "You're dead!"

Quailheart, meanwhile, was standing in front of one of the afflicted townsfolk, brandishing an elegant elfin sword.

"Hey!" he shouted, "What's your name? Hm? What are you doing here? Mind if I join you?"

The pallid and sickly villager said nothing, and continued his mechanical actions apace. Quailheart decapitated him with a florid display of elfin swordsmanship. As the headless body fell to the ground, a faint purple cloud could be seen to escape from it, dissipating into the humid afternoon.

"What are you doing?" shouted a horrified Young Laethwin the Elder, "Isn't there some way to cure them?"

The elf seemed not to hear him, and walked over to the next sickly villager, and began to demand that she identify herself. S'yrf'yl placed a hand on the lad's shoulder.

"Maybe you weren't paying attention kid... that was the cure."

Ironically, it is Peladdywynnyd who ends up saving the day. S'yrf'yl and Quailheart's methods of ridding the village of the scourge of Bhaats and Ghoulds that have possessed many denizens of Little Vinkum is incredibly unpopular with their kinfolk. It is ultimately the ghost who ultimately makes himself such a nuisance to the supernatural scourge that they flee their host bodies, never to return to Little Vinkum again.

Having finally found a people grateful for his service, Peladdwynnyd remains in Little Vinkum long enough for S'yrf'yl an Quailheart to make a speedy exit and continue on their journey. Unfortunately, when they reach the Unothath Desert there is no sign of the comet, which doesn't surprise them much at all, especially after they discover that Char Reyarteb was born in Unothath. The people of Uthonath begin to panic when they realize their secret will soon be known by the Lawmakers. The adventurers decide to leave after the locals start constructing a giant sand golem in order to keep them as well as other outsiders away.

Book Four: Pen and Plane

Verdant Anuerism struggles with his writing of the Atlas to the Elmether due to an epic troublesome houseguest. In a most unlikely turn of events, Theenis Dwarvelfan, Ponyhoof Pickpocket, and Drang Boomstick, along with their enemies, Osteorin the Couldn't Resist a Dare, and Alambar the What The Hell Was He Thinking appear seeking said houseguest--namely, Furbles the Hireling, who for some reason has quit the epic life, making epic three-on-three battles between the famed heroes and remaining villains impossible.
