Grey-Purple Cloud

Amongst the wide and impossibly varied amount of phenomena in Battal, none is more mysterious than the Grey-Purple Cloud. At least, that is the claim of various Grey-Purple Cloud enthusiasts, and nobody really cares enough to fight the claim.

A Grey-Purple Cloud is created when a mix of magical residue, the chanciest of luck and the improperly stored flammable substance converge. While the exact method to create the phenomena is not known, it generally happens at the worst possible time. As such, the sight of a Grey-Purple Cloud is seen as an ill omen, probably because if you are indeed seeing one you are probably caught up in its thick miasma and are pretty much screwed.

Physically, a Grey-Purple Cloud looks much as you would expect- A misty, cloud-like emanation that shifts between a deep murky grey and a sickening purple. It generally is created within the smoke of a burning object, which it soon overtakes, billowing outwards and remaining in a thick shroud for several hours. Inhaling it is a universally bad idea, although it's effects range from lethargy to the irresistible urge to sing embarrassing songs until you've sufficiently scandalized the nearby population to the point that you’re instantly disqualified from the running in any public office.

The most famous Cloud was created by H'wel Hazeweed-In-My-Pockets during his battles against Armba Alomba. Burning his own fields, H’wel chanced onto creating a cloud which managed to delay the Agash Brigade and from which H’wel and many of his fellow High-Elves managed to escape. Some claim this should quell superstitions regarding Grey-Purple Clouds, as in this case it was good luck for H’wel and his fellows. However, others argue that a wide variety of cancers and lung difficulties that emerged in the later stages of many of the High Elf survivors speaks to the contrary. It’s kind of spooky if you think about it for too long.
