Gangster Octopus (Card)

The Gangster Octopus, first seen in Wizbits episode 7, was the rarest card ever created for the CCG. The Gangster Octopus, besides being the most broken card ever designed for the Elemenstor CCG, was the first iteration of a Super-Mega-Double-Ultra Rare card. In order to allow the game to continue, there was a ritual burning of all Gangster Octopus cards in October 1996. This was an event held in a small suburb outside of Las Vegas, and has in fact been blamed for the major forest fire season that would follow, claiming it "incited the trees to riot". There are not believed to be any copies of Gangster Octopus still in existence. (The plural of octopus is never octopi. When referring to one species of octopus, use the term octopus. For multiple species, it is octopoda. You seriously would not believe the flamewars on this topic that rec.arts.elothtes had to go through. To this day, anyone suggesting a new plural for "octopus" is ostracized, and several trolls have related nicknames.)

Tournament Scene Repercussions

Although one would think the rarity would keep Gangster Octopus from impacting the tournament scene in any impressive way, it was a force that could not be stopped. While the power of the card was considerable, when used in conjunction with the lowly Fairy Godfather (Card) tournament victory was all but assured. The problem was that, upon playing a Gangster Octopus at such an event, a riot would inevitably break out, with players from all over attempting to steal the card for their own. The worst of these riots was at the Elemenstor Universe Championship Tournament of 1996, where not one but two Gangster Octopus cards made an appearance. The riot lasted for over a month. After the incident, the city of Cleveland banned the card game within its city limits, to prevent such an outbreak from ever happening again. James Langomedes claimed that he indirectly "manifested" these cards through his psychic contact with Hierarch Larchmere, which also allowed him to create an entire antique district in Cleveland.

The card, eventually, became a greater risk than possesion of the Diamond of Eldentari, thanks to the violent nature of the players of this game, many of which also played video games, especially the Grand Theft Auto line. These inherently violent people would do anything in their power to get this card, including stealing cars, beating up prostitutes, and killing untold numbers of policemen. Finally, the United States government took possesion of the final surviving copy of this card and publicly announced that they had hidden it in Afghanistan, leading to such a meticulous search of the country that Osama Bin Laden was located. His finder, however, upon being informed of the reward money, simply returned to looking for the card.
