Gan Pline

One of the more corpulent Grand Satraps of Mandleclang. Typically for a Grand Satrap, he was corrupt and received large amounts of money from the Cheese Barons of Middleclang to turn not just a blind eye but an entire blind sense-set to their shady practices.

Glan Pline first appeared in Book 3, in which his nature and the nature of his position were established. In a classic scene, he comes close to receiving his comeuppance at the hands of a small mob when, in the first time he had ever had to fight for himself, he manages to defend himself with a piece of Stingy Quilp Cheese.

Gan Pline's deputy, Epic High Liaison Ooden Pelapon, constantly attempted to have Gan Pline killed - not, as one might expect, in order to take his place as Grand Satrap, but to simply have him replaced with someone who wasn't such a fat, oafish lump of biological matter. Indeed, becoming the next Grand Satrap would have meant a decrease in Ooden's power and authority, as Epic High Liasons tend to do the dirty work of their Grand Satraps, whose positions are usually ambassadorial in nature.

Ironically, when Gan Pline finally died from several thousand simultaneous heart attacks, the exact circumstances of his death meant that, according to an obscure law, Ooden Praeton had to replace him as Grand Satrap. Upon learning this, Ooden, his mind flooded with visions of becoming like Gan Pline, hurled himself out of a window. Since he was already at ground level, he did not actually die until he purchased a knife and repeatedly stabbed himself with it.
