Forms of Government

There are several prevailing philosophies of rule among the kingdoms of Battal.

Among the most commonly practiced/adopted philosophies are Marocracy, which centers on the idea of hurting people to get your way, and Astonism, which focuses on impressing people with gaudy displays of power, be it material or elemenstoral, or most frequently, flowery and grandiose language. King Ronard, who by some is seen as the progenitor of modern government, employed an enlightened synthesis of Marocracy and Astonism, wielding both his impressive title as The First Magic Sword King as well as his Very Large But Unenchanted Spikey Hammer, with which he established the system of years.

It bears noting that Lord Greylord's manifesto, Furnocracy, was instrumental in the stability of The Magic Sword Kings Period in that it created a stable civil service (populated in large measure by Furniliars). However, this is a method of administration well-suited to virtually any form of government, and so is not considered a form of government in itself.

Other forms include:

  • Econocracy is the system used by the Kings of Alfafanar, in which rule is mantained because otherwise people would lose time and money
  • Swordtocracy is one term amognst many to describe rule by the Magic Sword Kings.
  • Imbetterthanyoucracy is a very unpopular rule in which several people are deemed superior to you, and there it ends.
  • Luncheoncracy is the rule by the one who has the most meat. In this specific government meat is used as both currency and symbol of power, with a pound of beef, for instance, equalling in one square mile of plains-land and a ton of chicken equalling lordship. A situation very similar to this was the de facto system during the early Tides of Epic Conflict Saga.
  • Uberacracy
and red-tape were the means by which the Lords of K'th'ith'h ruled. The Lord was advised by a council known as the S'n'c'rt who were appointed by drinking contests.
  • Omnocracy is the rule of all, over all. An extreme form of democracy and communism, it requires every single member of society to vote for every action for every individual. Generally regarded as impractical.
  • Mediocracy is the rule of the mediocre, or average. It is extremely difficult to maintain, as the rulers are supposed to be the average people, yet anyone who is made a ruler immediately ceases to be average or mediocre, and must be replaced as soon as possible.
  • Paradocracy is the use of Temporal Elemenstation to send orders back in time, thus averting disasters and crises before they even begin. This actually worked for nearly six months in the Kindom of Frull, until temporal paradoxes wiped the entire Kingdom from the face of the world in a storm of wind, rain and fish.
  • Asianocracy is the governing principle of the Wang Kingdom
  • 'Civilization' is the final unpopular form of government, which springs forth fully formed from The Tube.
