Flamapillar

A species of firey catapillar native to volcanic and arid regions of Zonardia. Flamapillars, without warning, will suddenly and violently erupt into flames. When this occurs, the Flamapillar will shriek loudly and hellishly in pain for several days before being reduced to a pile of ashes. With this strange evolutionary adaptation, it would have immediately died out, were it not for the misguided attentions of environmentalist Zonardians.

These Zonardians organized Flamapillar reserves, forced breeding programs (you don't want to see two creatures who are slowly burning to death have sex - trust me), as well as awareness programs and special laws requiring all Zonardian citizens protect Flamapillars at all costs.

The rest of Zonardia just thinks they should let the damn things die out, as it seems to be what they were made for.
