A Voice from the Past

Summary

Prologue: During their many travels, the Four Underdogs find themselves caught in a storm and shipwrecked on a small volcanic island in the Ennumerable Sea, north of the Sickle. How will they survive? How will they escape? And what will they learn of their destiny? Credits.

Act I: The Four Underdogs sit around a fire. Lander and Fantasmaphila are drying their sea-soaked clothing, while Wendel has already heated his clothing dry and Myrtle has likewise employed her powers of Elemenstation to her advantage. It does not seem to occur to either of them to help their comrades in these depressing and somewhat frightening circumstances. A voice speaks to them from the flames--a voice from the distant past, speaking of distant things in distant locales...

Act II: The voice reveals that it is the Ocumen but speaks little more of itself. Instead it speaks of Char Reyarteb, the great significance of the Starborn Gem, a great battle in the past, and one in the future. It tells the Four Underdogs that they must be unified against the looming threat and that they must seek the guidance of another, who will in turn be seeking them.

Act III: Having imparted his message, the Ocumen reveals the location of a beached Shushelcraft, which the Four Underdogs must work together to repair and to operate in order to return to the Shield. They learn valuable lessons about how much they depend on one another and ultimately run their Shushelcraft aground on the shores of Blee-that-was, where their travels begin anew--and with renewed purpose.

Notes

In this episode, Fantasmaphila finds a large Pink Fruitbat that is obviously lost and far from home. She befriends her and the animal travels with the group for the rest of their adventures.

In his long stories, the Ocumen employs Glass Furniture as a metaphor for the Four Underdogs' relationship: fragile and beautiful, and deadly to everyone nearby if ever broken. This is the earliest known reference (in real life) to Glass Furniture.

It is also of note that Patrick Stewart did the voice of Harbinger Portent and the Ocumen for the Elemenstor Radio Dramas, which eventually lead to his reprising the role for The Wizbits Cartoon.
