Deathrider Ninja Clan

From the kingdom of Graha, a mysterious clan of ninja who have lurked in the shadows of Battal for as long as can be remembered. Very few details about this clan were ever put forth in any of the canonized material, although the clan has proved a fertile field for fanfiction writing and speculation.

As far as canonized material goes, we know only that the clan was instrumental in teaching Shezdor and bestowed upon him the Mask of Akhejarr, that they've been around a very long time (and apparently are still extant during The Elemenstor Cycle), and that they're very good at sneaking around and killing people, as one would expect from ninja. Passing references have been made to an ongoing conflict with the Blood Pirates of Meydrag'haa.

The other direct reference to the clan can be found in the Tales of the Wang Mountains expansion to the CCG, where no less than 20 cards were devoted to the various equipment and skills of the Deathrider, though only 2 cards actually described members of the clan itself. The expansion triggered a brief surge in 'ninja decks,' although this was checked when a subsequent expansion introduced cards capable of countering the immensely unbalanced Ninja Shadow Litigation (Card). In the third expansion after Tales of the Wang Mountains, both the Ninja Shadow Litigation (Card) and its counter cards were banned, earning them a distinction shared only by the legendary Gangster Octopus and HAX cards.

Depiction in the animated series

In the second season episode Char Reyarteb's Secretest Plot!, a mysterious assassin is sent to "destroy" the pirate captain escorting the kids. Most fans accept this character as a member of the Deathrider Clan, as the CCG cards do mention that they were not against accepting work from Char Reyarteb. However, the ninja is dispatched far too easily by the young apprentices and slinks away as a bumbling henchman. These events were later retconned by fanfic writers claiming that Reyarteb sent a purposely bad assassin in order to give the Wizbits a false sense of security, this however, directly contradicts the episode's dialogue.
