A species of wild gamefowl that evolved to resemble cockatrices in an attempt to frighten off predators. They lack all of the abilities and nastier qualities of cockatrices and aren't even related to them in any way. This scares off less intelligent beings but hardly fools humans, who have domesticated and eaten them in large numbers.

In the wild, they live in arid areas and thrive on small scrub and insects. They mostly move around via inflating air-sacs contained within their breasts and floating away on the breeze.

For obvious reasons, the emblem of the Falchion Faction was a golden crested backaw.
