Creature Families
As put forward in The Origin of the Monsters, most of the creatures in the ELotH franchise belong to two to three families. Creatureologists in Battal believe that all monsters in a single family can be traced back to a single Progenitor Creature of the Most Discerning Races.
Aquatic
If it swims, it's grouped into the Aquatic family. There is some debate as if to floating or dogpaddling counts as swimming.
Avian
Birdlike qualities place a creature in the Avian family of creatures, and typically include beaks and feathers.
Bestial
If it's fuzzy and has teeth, a creature is counted as a Beast.
Chimeric
Any creature which derives features from two or more seemingly incompatible creatures.
