Castle Whitecrag

During the The Sundered Era, Castle Whitecrag served as one of the main seats of power of The Sickle. Located near the source of White River, it was from Castle Whitecrag that the Benevolent Archduke would administer the regions south of the Bay of Cream. (It is worth noting here that the Benevolent Archduke is a title given to any man who resided in Castle Whitecrag. Indeed, many Archdukes were more of the malevolent sort.) In the larger scope of ELotH, Castle Whitecrag is usually remembered as the location of Kundo Maaa's greatest victory, where he killed the Benevolent Archduke and stole the Pendant of Many Seasons.

Location

Castle Whitecrag was nestled in the foothills of The Ultracraggoths, near the source of the White River. It allowed the Archduke to easily administer to the many surrounding villages and hamlets, while being close enough to the White river for easy travel. What is less evident is why the castle was located in a flat grove across from one of the major fords of the White River, as opposed to one of the several, infinitely more defensible bluffs in the immediate area.

Description

By all available accounts, Castle Whitecrag was visually impressive, despite a small fiasco involving a beige paint scheme which clashed with the stark whiteness of the White River. This stateliness fell in line with the Astonist government of the Benevolent Archdukes, though the defenses of the Castle were somewhat suspect. During a remarkably (some say epically, but they are clearly exaggerating) cold winter, the Archduke had all the arrow slits filled in. He also had all the battlements replaced with a firm iron rail, so as not to obstruct his view of the country side. In addition, it was discovered that the architect had used mud bricks as a money saving method, compromising the integrity of a large section of the castle walls. Combined with the fact that the Archduke kept a larger harem than he did barracks, it becomes clear as to why the castle was so easily overtaken by the War Men.

Discussion

A good lot of this stuff comes from my copy of Plunder of the Barrenlands. The only problem is that most of it was ruined when my basement flooded three years ago. This happened to be on one of the three legible pages that were left, so I wrote about it, but I've always been fascinated with the Late Sundered Era, and if anyone can find anything canonical concerning this time period, it'd be great, because it really needs some fleshing out.
