Bw’lon

Bw’lon is the Quickshot Archery style of the Unlight Elves, and in their native tounge it translates best as ‘Arrow Thought’. Some of the styles detractors mock the style by saying that it uses thousands of arrows and little thought. These people are inexplicably found in a rather pin-cushion-like state soon after.

Bw’lon is best known for the now-defunct habit of the most prideful students hampering themselves in training, using blindfolds, finger-ties, and badly made bows to improve their skills to the point where making a shot with good odds became a near guarantee.

One student, whose name is lost to history, blinded himself to practice, and later found that the blinding was usually temporary, and involved more strips of cloth and fewer pins. He was heard to say the following before keeling over from delayed shock.

“You know, realizing that now, I think—I could make any shot pretty clearly right now- If it were possible to nock a bow with no eyeballs!”

This practice was swiftly discontinued.

Origin

The practice of Bw'lon is unknown to any of the Elfin Factions, as its roots lie not in the warrior arts of elves, but those of the Nevelost. It is the descendent of a practice in the language of the Nevelost known as Pw'n. Apparently, the word was used to describe nearly all of the Nevelost's martial skills, but is most commonly associated with their most widely used methods: Archery. Additionally, the word and variations of it were used for exclamations, insults, or celebratory exhortations associated with combat.

The leader of the Elfin Fletcher's Guild rode in solemnity to the middle of the battlefield, where approached the emissary of the Brothers of the Magic Forge. This rivalry had gone far enough, and he intended to end it with a diplomatic solution. He took care to adopt a posture and facial expression that demanded respect yet showed great peace and wisdom below the surface, all the while to have eyes gleaming with reason and alliance.

"Well, well," said the Dwarf, looking up wistfully from his seat on the back of a brown pony, "I see that the Guild Leader himself has come to parley? Are ye so desparate at this hour as to speak with a mere Officer of the Magic Forge?"

"Though my height be above thee, good master Haaglume," said K'los, "Rest assured that I and my bretheren do not construe it to indicate any further loftiness."

"Hmph! Though ah don't like the cut of yer cloak, Elfie... at least the sentiment rings without the accusations of betrayal that have plagued the relations of our two peoples. Perhaps we might be makin' a deal concernin' our common interest in magic arrowheads. Supposin' I was to--"

The Dwarven ambassador was suddenly cut short by an arrow through his throat... quickly followed by a grouping of three more that hit nearly the same spot as he fell from his pony to the cold earth below. K'los groaned and closed his eyes. At that range and with such accuracy, he did not need to glance back in order to be certain whom of his Guild had ensured that their war with the Dwarves continue.

But as if in answer to his suspicions, his ears were met with a loud cry in the tongue of Merrigold:

"PW'NED!!!"

-- from The Item Guild Wars

A secretive style that is passed from father to son, it was very rare indeed after the destruction of Merrigold. Still, those with origins in Merrigold could be found exhibiting their skill in P'wnage from time to time throughout ELotH. However, some fans believe it to be just another obvious example of "teh sploit".
