Bloodwings

The Bloodwings are the insane and bloodthirsty Quasar Rider faction of Corusmera in Gerr. The Bloodwings are featured in the Quasar Riders of Zonardia as the featured military force for evil in the series, which chronicles the Zonardian Civil War.

Their Quasars, flying dragon-like creatures, are almost always blood red - a result of secret rituals involving having them drink water soaked in the roots of a Burning Bush grown in the South Hecter. The legion is controlled by Empress Corvax, who occasionally leads them directly into conflict, but much more often directs them through the command of the nefarious Lord Gunter Schwartzhart.

The Branches

The Bloodwings are divided into three primary branches, all of whom report to Empress Corvax, but maintain a mildly adversarial relationship with one another.

Military Engineering

Headquartered in the Joy Park military manufacturing facility, these soldier-scientists produce the weapons and mechano-magical devices for the empire of Gerr. They are Quasar riders, but rarely ride or even interact with their mounts, which tend to be weak from neglect. Their general lack of a true fighting spirit or prowess tends to cause them to be looked down on by the other two branches, where they tend to feel superior because they do not rely upon unthinking brute force.

The Military Engineering Branch was the one to build the ultimate secret weapon, the Moon of Doom, a floating sphere of magic and technology capable of leveling entire cities with a single blast. The weapon was destroyed, but in book 3 of the series, Legacy Mother, the second Moon of Doom was constructed, but it too was destroyed.

The branch is lead by brilliant but twisted Dr Eggchair, who designed and personally supervised the construction of both doom moons.

The Guard

The Guard are the conventional military air-force of the Bloodwings, and are usually what is meant when referring to the "Bloodwings." Lead by Lord Gunter Schwartzhart, their huge barracks and operational base are located in the city of Corusmera, both huge structures constructed from dark bloodstone. The Quasars of this branch are huge and fiercly vicious, stabled in the barracks along with the riders themselves. The Guard view themselves as the only true warrior branch of the Bloodwings, and therefore the most valuable.

The Horde

The Bloodwings took control of the minds of feral minotaur Duruds who make up the third branch of the bloodwings. Identifiable by the distinctive red armband of the Bloodwings, these minotaur ride into battle upon the back of Giant Stink Bees, and are the army's feared shock troops.
