Asana Millytopthought
One of the central characters from Book 8 of Tycho Brahe's Elemenstor
Cycle. Asana begins the story as an impatient and energetic girl of 12, small for her age, who has lived a frustratingly sheltered and peaceful life on a farm between the villages of Yalka and Pormora in Terle. Her governess/tutor Dame Walk lives with Asana and teaches her just enough about art, literature, history, and self defense to motivate young Millytopthought to pursue adventure. When the Halfmen of Zonard revolt, instead of fleeing for the western mountains like the others of her family, she stays to fight (after an initial brief flight of panic). She meets up with Trafficant the Sly, a 16-year old boy from south of Pormora.
It is against this backdrop that Asana begins hearing rumors of a return of the mythical Eldersbane. One thing leads to another and soon the two are on the trail of the floating fortress. The two eventually are seperated and Asana and Trafficant piece together what they can independantly. This takes a long time although it is compressed significantly in the book. Chapters 20-23 span 3 years so that when Asana and Trafficant next meet, Asana has begun to grow into a young woman and Trafficant a young man. As the story reaches a pulse pounding climax, young love blossoms between the two intrepid adventurers.
Strangely, in almost all of Asana's appearances in Fan Fiction, she is depicted as being blind since birth. This seems to be universally accepted as part of the depiction of the character although in the actual book where she appears (Book 8) she is blind in no way.
