Andrygynyll

One of the three Magic Swords, along with Blade Castratoryll and Evyyrnagg, possessed by Elf-Queen Gwyndlewhythlwend. Andrygynyll was styled as a traditional, long-bladed executioner's sword, and as such had one edge for beheading women and one for beheading men. The sword was unwieldy to use in battle, and was reserved largely for ceremonial purposes. It had only one power: Whoever got beheaded by it would stay dead for all of eternity. While this does not initially appear to be a very useful power - since beheading by even an ordinary sword is not exactly mendable by a few stitches and some chicken soup - people of an Epic nature have a tendency to turn up again no matter what you do, like silverfish. You might think you've cut their head off, but then it turns out that was their twin brother, or a cleverly painted gorilla, or that the whole thing was a dream had by some guy you don't even know. Andrygynyll was proofed against this phenomenon by the cryptic rune engraved on each side of its blade: "Git-R-Dead".

Other facts

  • Andrygynyll was initially written as belonging to Elf-Queen Gwyndlewhythlwend but crops up throughout the Elemenstors timeline, whenever an author wants to kill off a character without having them later retconned back to life.
  • There has been much speculation as to exactly why Elf-Queen Gwyndlewhythlwend had three swords when most of the other Magic Sword Kings had two at the most. Some have suggested a psychological phenomenon known as "Longish Pointy Thing Envy". If this is true, one can only begin to guess at what this tells us about King Lightlute.
